What is SAMHSA?

Career: Samhsa

SAMHSA stands for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a program that operates as part of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. This agency focuses on reducing the overall impact of mental illness and substance abuse in American communities. Congress established this agency in 1992 to help make information about substance use and mental disorders more available, and since then, the agency has worked to help guide policies and collect the data needed to make a meaningful impact on these issues. Much of the work takes place in four offices that oversee grant programs and data collection activities.
