Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is part of the Department of Homeland Security that handles responsibilities related to stopping criminal organizations from committing illegal acts and using trade, travel, immigration and financial systems in the United States. It formed in 2010 within the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) program. This department investigates and addresses issues involving human smuggling and trafficking, immigration document fraud, narcotics and weapons smuggling, money laundering, transnational gang activity, international art theft, cybercrimes, and more. Various divisions focus on specific duties to better support national security needs.
