What does a subsea engineer do?

As a subsea engineer, you design and develop equipment and components for use in offshore, undersea areas. Many subsea engineers work for the gas and petroleum industry, but this job is not exclusive to that area. In this role, you may design structures to account for problems like low temperatures, high pressure, corrosion, and aquatic life. Given the challenging environment, this job requires the ability to design structures in a way that allows divers to repair them without exposing the rest of the structure to risk. To accomplish this, you may need the requisite diving skills to examine worksites in person, gather data about the area, and provide customized solutions for subsea engineering needs.
