What does a news editor do?

As a news editor, your role is to oversee the news department at a magazine, newspaper, or online publication. News editors can also work in TV and radio. In this career, you meet daily with your news team and take story pitches from each reporter or assign them specific stories to cover. Some publications have multiple news editors, each responsible for different types of news, such as local, regional, national, or international news. Writers then submit drafts to you, and your role is to ensure that the content is ready for publication. You often pass pieces to fact-checkers who do background research to ensure the content is factually accurate.
