A maintenance director oversees the daily facility maintenance operations of a building or physical plant. Your duties and responsibilities in this career are to inspect plumbing, heating, and HVAC systems, supervise other facilities workers, and contract work that cannot be performed by in-house staff. You also develop budgets and inventory and hire and train new employees. Some maintenance directors may even have a say in planning new building or facility construction. You collaborate daily with other internal and external personnel, such as administrators and public officials.
