What does a CNC operator do?

CNC (computer numerical control) operators are trained to operate CNC machines and CNC routers. CNC machines and routers control electro-mechanical devices such as mechanized shop tools and devices. Some machines that CNC operators use are mills, lathes, and grinders. Using computer programming inputs, a CNC operator (or programmer) manipulates mechanized devices through the CNC machine to make cuts based on CAD designs. Typically, their programs instruct the mechanized device to cut, sculpt, or finish component prototypes. CNC programmers are responsible for translating and measuring parts, calibrating CNC machines and routers, performing production protocols, adhering to safety standards, and performing quality assurance.
