A pet trainer provides behavioral instruction or training, typically to household pets. This training is often related to either basic obedience or show performance. Other trainers work with service animals and train such service animals as guide dogs or emotional support pets. Qualifications for this career vary but often include postsecondary education in animal care or training and experience working with animals. These jobs are available in a variety of settings, including pet shelters, obedience schools, pet stores, zoos, research facilities, and on movie sets. Some trainers work in their clients’ home.
