What do environmental engineers build?

Environmental engineers plan, build, and test erosion control systems, water control systems, and waste management and utility plants. Their projects vary from large to small scale, and may include collaborating to build a city’s water system, landfills, and recycling centers. Environmental engineers may also restructure refineries to find ways to reduce toxic gas emissions; plan irrigation formats for rooftop gardens; or design an ocean desalination plant.
