What do dancers wear?

Dancers may be required to wear a variety of costumes, outfits, and gear depending on the type of dance and productions in which they perform. For example, dancers that perform in ballets may wear dance leotards underneath costumes specific to the role they are portraying. They will also wear different types of ballet shoes depending on their part. During training, practice, and auditions, dancers will need to wear a variety of athletic clothing and use specific dance gear designed for each purpose. Tap dancing, for instance, requires special tap shoes to perform.
