What is an RTE (Release Train Engineer)?

A Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and coach for an Agile Release Train (ART), which is a team of multiple Agile teams working together to deliver value in a scaled Agile environment, often using the SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) methodology. The RTE facilitates ART events and processes, assists teams in delivering value, manages risks, and helps resolve obstacles. They work closely with Product Managers, Scrum Masters, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment, transparency, and continuous improvement across the ART. RTEs play a critical role in coordinating large-scale software development and ensuring the smooth operation of the ART.
