What is a Rohingya?
Career: Rohingya
The Rohingya are a predominantly Muslim ethnic minority group from the Rakhine State in Myanmar (formerly Burma). They have their own distinct language, culture, and traditions, and have lived in Myanmar for generations. However, the Myanmar government does not officially recognize them as citizens, rendering many stateless and subject to discrimination and violence. In recent years, hundreds of thousands of Rohingya have fled to neighboring countries, particularly Bangladesh, to escape persecution. International organizations consider the Rohingya one of the most persecuted minorities in the world.
