To take up a career as an Interventional Radiologist, you must be a board-certified, fellowship-trained physician, having graduated from an accredited medical school. Additional job qualifications include five years of residency, the passing of a licensing exam, and completion of one of several career path training programs certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). You’ll earn certification in both diagnostic radiology and vascular and interventional radiology from the American Board of Radiology (ABR). You’ll want to develop skills and expertise in such specialized areas as radiation physics and safety, the biological effects of radiation, and the prevention of injury to patients.
