How to become an illustrator?

Although some employers expect you to have a bachelor’s degree in illustration, graphic design, or a related fine art or commercial art field, your portfolio's quality will primarily attract business to you as an Illustrator. Many start as freelancers, working for graphic design or advertising agencies, packagers, publishers, or other client categories while building their portfolios. You will need to demonstrate proficiency and creativity with the medium used by your employer or client. This might include pen, oil, watercolor, or digital software. Additional qualifications include a collaborative attitude and the ability to capture and convey the marketing message with your work.
