The path to a water resource engineer career involves significant education, training, and experience. One of the minimum qualifications for this job is a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field such as environmental or mechanical engineering. Aspiring engineers have to take and pass several examinations including the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. Some states require that they also take an accredited course before taking any required tests and exams. Once they have completed their exams, they become a civil engineering intern or engineer in training before they can be eligible to become a water resource engineer.
