To begin your career as a tram driver, you need many qualifications including a high school diploma, being at least 21 years old, a valid driver’s license, and excellent customer service skills. While prior experience operating a tram is desirable, you typically go through on-the-job training to start. As a tram driver, your job duties include loading and unloading passengers, assisting those with wheelchairs or other devices, taking payments, and performing routine maintenance and inspections on your tram. You must have a firm knowledge of rules and regulations of the transport industry, some mechanical aptitude, and the ability to write basic reports. Employers prefer candidates who carry themselves professionally, exhibit patience, and can adapt well to changing schedules.
