To become a technical editor, you need a bachelor’s degree in technical communications, journalism, English, or a related field. Sometimes, additional education in engineering or a master’s degree is required, depending on the employer. Technical writing skills are extremely relevant for this career, and you need to be able to understand complex instructions while editing with extreme attention to detail. Hands-on experience with HTML editor software and at least two years of technical writing experience are preferred. Qualifications also include proficiency in relevant word processing and desktop publishing software and web coding systems.
