How to become a technical artist?

A technical artist must have an understanding of video game production, console hardware, and the software used to manipulate creative assets like video game characters and environment. Since the industry is evolving rapidly, past job experience might not be as relevant as the ability to adapt to new tools and new approaches involved in the technical aspects of programming and animation.
