How to become a sound designer?

Career: Sound Designer

Sound designers typically have a bachelor’s degree in music, with a focus on sound design. In job descriptions, this qualification is often referenced as being a tonmeister–German for “sound master.” When pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music, you should pursue as much hands-on experience as possible, working with school productions and creating your own sound effects. You can further your education–and job opportunities–through a master’s degree, though it is not required for most sound designer positions. You can either start your own sound studio or work for an established production company.
