The qualifications needed to become a rail loader include a high school diploma or GED certificate and a valid driver’s license. You must also be able to drive automatic and manual transmission vehicles, some of which are oversized. You should be comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather and be physically fit with the ability to transport at least 40 pounds by hand. You are expected to pass a drug screening, background check, and physical. Previous experience with manual labor or manufacturing is beneficial. A flexible schedule is required, as you must work overtime as needed. This may include weekends and holidays. Desired skills include excellent communication and the ability to work effectively on a team.
