How to become a rabbi?

Qualifications for a career as a rabbi vary widely among different branches of Judaism. The first step to becoming a rabbi is to establish your Jewish heritage or to convert to Judaism, which includes becoming circumcised if you are male and not already circumcised. Do keep in mind that some denominations will not allow converts to serve as rabbis. As a rabbi, you must study the history and moral framework of the Jewish faith and have a strong desire to guide and direct the spiritual lives of others. Rabbis must attend rabbinical school where they will study Jewish theology, Talmudic exegesis, Hebrew and Yiddish, and gain practical skills and experience on ministering to the wider community. Some may even spend time in Israel.
