How to become a production stage manager?

To become a production stage manager, you can either have formal education qualifications, like a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in the arts, or have completed an internship or apprenticeship to learn your job responsibilities and duties. With the education pathway, you typically also must complete at least a short internship to gain on-the-job experience working backstage for productions, where you learn about costuming, controlling audio and visuals, and production direction. Production stage managers have excellent communication skills, some technical skills to work with backstage equipment, leadership skills, time management abilities, and attention to detail.
