How to become a percussion instructor?

Career: Percussion Instructor

To become a percussion instructor, you need a foundation in music education, which means studying to earn a bachelor’s degree or higher in this field. You should also have extensive prior playing experience; if you spent time in a marching band, that adds to your value as a potential instructor because you understand the responsibilities of the percussion section. If you want to open up a private teaching studio, you don’t need a bachelor’s degree or formal qualifications, but you should have a solid understanding of techniques and musical theory, and be able to demonstrate this skill upon request. Some employers accept candidates without a bachelor’s degree so long as they have a good amount of experience instructing and playing.
