The qualifications that you need to become a medical proofreader include at least one year of related experience, knowledge of medical terminology and AMA style guidelines, and the ability to use software such as Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat. Some employers may prefer applicants with a degree in a medical field, while others seek proofreaders with a background or degree in English or journalism. While not typically required, you can also pursue certification from professional organizations such as the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP). Other qualifications include knowledge of proofreading symbols and excellent attention to detail.
