Qualifications to become a manufacturing executive include at least a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, supply chain manufacturing management, or a related field, as well as ten years of experience supervising manufacturing engineers and quality assurance staff. Some employers require you to be licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) and having other certificates, such as Six Sigma Black Belt or Lean Leader Certification, gives you a competitive edge in the job market. You are expected to maintain updated knowledge of company policies, applicable laws, and bargaining agreements. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and motivational skills, and you must be able to read technical and scientific reports. It is also vital to have negotiation skills.
