How to become a lifeguard?

The qualifications needed to become a lifeguard include an active lifeguard certification. To earn this certification, you must be an expert swimmer and be able to demonstrate your ability to swim to safety while carrying an injured or drowning person. You also need training and certification in life-saving skills like cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and water rescues. Most employers prefer you to have at least a high school diploma in addition to your lifeguard certifications. You can choose training courses through the American Red Cross, American Pool, National Aquatic Society, YMCA, and U.S. Lifesaving Association.
