The qualifications you need to become a health data analyst include a bachelor’s degree in healthcare management or a similar field. You also need previous experience in a healthcare position with similar duties and responsibilities. Health data analysts need excellent computer skills, especially with word processing and spreadsheet programs, as you use these to create reports and organize data. Some employers prefer candidates with a health data analyst credential through AHIMA. This program requires three years of experience as a health data analyst, a bachelor’s degree, and a passing grade on the Certified Health Data Analyst (CDHA) exam.
