Job description

Description:

The Health Data Analyst is responsible for analyzing medical, pharmacy, and financial data to generate actionable insights that support client strategy and decision-making. This role focuses on identifying trends in utilization, risk, and cost, and translating complex data into clear, usable outputs for Benefit Advisors, internal and external teams. The Data Analyst partners closely with Advisors, and Population Health resources to support the development of data-informed recommendations. This role plays a critical part in strengthening LHD’s analytics capabilities by improving reporting accuracy, consistency, and insight generation.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Analyze medical and pharmacy claims data, eligibility files, and financial datasets to identify trends in utilization, high-cost claimants, chronic condition prevalence, and key cost drivers.

2. Build and maintain recurring reporting packages, including dashboards, exhibits, and summary reports that support quarterly and annual client reviews.

3. Translate complex data into clear, structured insights by developing charts, tables, and written summaries that highlight key findings, anomalies, and areas of concern.

4. Partner with Benefit Advisors and internal teams to support the development of client strategies by providing data analysis, forecasting, and scenario modeling as requested.

5. Maintain and enhance standardized reporting templates to ensure consistency across clients, including updates to metrics, benchmarks, and visualization formats.

6. Perform data validation across multiple sources, including carrier reports, vendor data, and internal systems, to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies prior to final delivery.

7. Support evaluation of vendor programs and population health initiatives by analyzing engagement, outcomes, and cost impact over time.

8. Prepare data exhibits and supporting analysis for client presentations, including renewal discussions, stewardship meetings, and strategic planning sessions.

9. Respond to ad hoc reporting and analysis requests from internal stakeholders, often under tight deadlines, ensuring accuracy and clarity in deliverables.

10. Contribute to the development and refinement of internal analytics tools, dashboards, and workflows to improve efficiency, scalability, and reporting capabilities.

11. Document data definitions, methodologies, and reporting assumptions to promote consistency and transparency across analyses.

12. Monitor emerging trends in healthcare cost, utilization, and analytics practices, and apply relevant insights to improve reporting and analysis approaches.

13. Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in data analytics or a related field required.
  • Minimum (3) years of experience in data analysis, healthcare analytics, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with medical and pharmacy claims data strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including data modeling and analysis required.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI or similar) required.
  • Ability to interpret and summarize complex datasets into clear insights required.
  • Experience in the employee benefits or healthcare industry preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Additional credentials (e.g., CHES, CNS/LDN, health data analytics certifications) are a plus.
