The qualifications to become a family assistant vary based on the needs of the family and the requirements of your employer or employment agency. However, you usually need to undergo a complete background check when applying for a family assistant position. Although a high school diploma or GED certificate is sometimes a requirement, family assistants are often hired based on their interpersonal skills and relevant experience. In this career, such relevant experience could include past childcare positions, cooking skills, housekeeping experience, and even certification in CPR and first aid. Many family assistant positions also require a valid driver’s license.
