The qualifications that you need to become a call taker include communication and telephone skills, knowledge of emergency services practices, and an understanding of the geography of the region in which you work. Employers may expect a high school diploma or GED certificate, and you must be able to demonstrate certain skills, including the ability to type 35-40 words per minute, the ability to remain calm and multitask in a fast-paced work environment, and the ability to communicate clearly with callers and emergency service agencies.
