How to become a CCHT?

To become a CCHT, you need a high school diploma or equivalent and must complete a dialysis certificate program. These training programs are available at community colleges, vocational schools, and online programs; they typically last twelve to eighteen months and teach you how to run and maintain a dialysis machine, as well as background information on renal disease and how dialysis works. Dialysis technicians are typically required to know relevant emergency procedures, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Your state may have additional requirements for becoming a dialysis technician, so be sure to research the criteria where you live before you start signing up for a training course. The Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) is the only provider of the CCHT certification. To earn this certification, you must work at least 3,000 hours as a dialysis technician and have completed at least thirty hours of continuing education. Your certification must be renewed every three years.
