How to become a bridge tender?

A bridge tender is in charge of bridge operation and safety. Career qualifications include a high school diploma or GED certificate. Most people in this career receive on the job training, but prior work experience with inspecting and repairing mechanical systems is often helpful. Other important skills include good verbal communication, knowledge of all vehicle safety and traffic regulations, and the ability to operate a radio. Job duties of a bridge tender include monitoring a waterway or railway to see oncoming traffic and communicating with boat and train captains to coordinate passage.
