How to be a good substitute teacher?

To be a good substitute teacher, you will need to be either a subject matter expert or be easily able to pick up new information and teach it. Substitute teachers can quickly respond to requests to teach, as often there is little notice when a substitute is needed to cover for another teacher. Good substitutes are excellent managers of the classroom, as students may be inclined to test substitutes. Being able to establish control early makes for a good substitute teacher and a more productive learning environment for the students.
