A coatings inspector or coating inspector is a quality control technician who works primarily with protective coatings and materials, such as paint, and ensures projects stay within determined specifications. Career qualifications include a high school diploma and completion of level 1 or 2 of the NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) Coating Inspector Program. Level 2 of this program includes experience working in the field, while level 3 includes additional peer review. A coatings inspector may also choose to specialize in marine coating, nuclear power plant training, or pipeline coating. People in this career should have the ability to interpret technical blueprints and computer skills.
