The qualifications required to become a tank farm operator include a high school diploma and a valid driver’s license. It is important to have computer and math skills, be mechanically inclined, and understand ATA-103, the standard for jet fuel quality control if you work at an airport. Physical requirements include being able to lift 50 pounds, frequent walking, bending, and climbing, as well as working in all types of weather. Many shifts include nights, weekends, and holidays. You are expected to pass a drug screen, physical, and a background check. For most airports, you must pass the background check and be eligible for a US Customs security clearance.
