How do you become a signal helper?

The qualifications needed to become a signal helper include a high school diploma or GED certificate. Previous experience in the construction industry or operating construction equipment is highly preferred by employers, as is experience in communications or railroad signaling. You must have in-depth knowledge of all safety regulations, and you should be able to identify and mitigate safety risks and situations. Some positions also prefer that you have a CDL license. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to be successful in this position. You are expected to pass a background check and drug screen, and physical requirements include being comfortable working in confined places, climbing ladders, walking on catwalks, lifting heavy materials, and responding quickly to alarm bells and train whistles.
