Overview

***This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP***

**This Job Posting only applies to RMI Citizens and must be authorized to work in the RMI to be considered for this Job**

Under the supervision of the Chief Stevedore, Stevedore Sr are responsible for all long shoring duties. Stevedores conduct cargo operations for discharging cargo to Kwajalein as well as onboard the department’s vessels. Stevedores provide line handling for all ships within the Kwajalein Harbor when requested


Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company

  • Loading and unloading of containers and equipment from ships.
  • Drives lift trucks on docs or aboard ships to transfer items.
  • Drives tractors and operates equipment to load/unload trailers dockside.
  • Marks containers appropriately.
  • Sorts cargo for load/unload.
  • Installs bracing, strapping and other protective devices.
  • Stacks cargo as required.
  • Attaches slings appropriately for cargo lift.
  • Performs rigging.
  • Operates a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Performs all other duties inherent to the role.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Leads all stevedore operations under the direction of Chief Stevedore.
  • Able to lead team when Chief Stevedore is away and perform all duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if the degree is required.
    • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certifications:
    • Licensed Heavy Equipment Operator preferred
    • Certified Rigger preferred
  • Experience:
    • 0 Years experience, entry level.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience as a longshoreman, rigger or operator of heavy equipment preferred;
  • Preferred skills:
    • Must also be able to communicate well as part of a small team and work cooperatively with other colleagues.
    • Ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.
    • Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines.
    • Resilient, self-motivated, and able to work well under pressure.
    • Ability to deal with problems and implement effective solutions.
    • Flexibility to work varying shifts and time schedules as needed.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and storage requirements to meet compatibility of products based on hazard class is required.
    • Strong interpersonal skills are required.
    • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement is required.
    • Ability to prioritized responsibilities to handle a demanding workload is required.
    • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required.
    • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written preferred.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months).
    • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
    • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
    • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
    • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
