How do you become a part time medical assistant?

You can choose one of several paths to become a part-time medical assistant. At a minimum, you need to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Some employers hire part-time medical assistants with little to no experience in the health care industry and provide on-the-job training. But those offices are becoming harder to find since most employers now prefer candidates with a formal education in medical assisting. You find certificate programs that last about nine to twelve months at vocational schools. Or you may pursue an associate degree at a community college that takes about two years to complete. These programs may be on-campus or online and include a combination of classroom lessons and lab time. They teach you about medical billing, first aid, and medical terminology. Becoming certified is not required, but earning the designation of Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) may make you stand out in the job market.
