How do you become a behaviorist?

Qualifications to become a behaviorist include a bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or a related field. Some employers require a state teaching license, a clinical certification, or certification related to your specific position, such as the completion of a Behavior Specialist Certificate Program. Many positions working with children require previous experience teaching in a classroom, especially in positions where “at risk” students are a responsibility. Additional expertise needed for this position includes techniques for completing FBAs, BIPs, and how to use the data to improve educational instruction and create relevant assignments for individual students. You should be able to research and implement new teaching strategies, incorporate technology to support instruction, and have skills in collaboration, written and verbal communication, and leadership.
