To become an image processing engineer, you need a master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or similar field. Many employers prefer a Ph.D. or experience developing algorithms for image and video processing and computer vision applications. Other qualifications include experience with chemistry, mathematics, mechanical design, physics, electronics, and optics and optical design. You must be skilled in non-image signal processing, Python, MATLAB, machine learning and classifications, processing multispectral data, and traditional image processing algorithms. Having a scientist mindset and programming skills is beneficial for this job as well.
