How can I become a weekend medical assistant?

Career: Weekend Medical Assistant

There are a couple of paths you can take to become a weekend medical assistant. Many medical assistants complete a medical assistant program at a vocational school, community college, or an online school. Make sure your program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Others obtain an entry-level position at a medical office and learn on the job, though most employers prefer candidates with a background in the medical field. Additional qualifications include knowledge of medical coding, terminology, and procedures, as well as awareness of medical law and ethics, and excellent communication skills. Certification is not required, but becoming a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants may make you more competitive on the job market.
