What is a game master?

Game Masters, often abbreviated as GMs, are individuals who organize, oversee, and facilitate role-playing games (RPGs) or other interactive gaming experiences. They create stories, control non-player characters, manage game rules, and guide players through the narrative. A Game Master’s role can also involve ensuring fair play, resolving disputes, and adapting the game to keep it engaging for all participants. Game Masters are essential for providing structure and maintaining the immersive world in tabletop RPGs and some online games.
