What is Core Medical Training?
Career: Core Medical Training
Core Medical Training (CMT) is a two-year postgraduate training program in the UK designed for doctors who have completed their Foundation Training and wish to pursue a career in hospital medicine. CMT provides broad-based experience and training in various medical specialties, helping trainees develop the knowledge and skills required for higher specialty training. The program includes both clinical placements and educational components, with assessments throughout the two years. Upon successful completion, trainees are eligible to apply for specialty training positions such as cardiology, gastroenterology, and others. CMT has largely been replaced by Internal Medicine Training (IMT) in recent years, but the structure and goals remain similar.
