What is a CMA or RMA?

CMA stands for Certified Medical Assistant, and RMA stands for Registered Medical Assistant. Both are professional credentials for medical assistants who perform clinical and administrative duties in healthcare settings such as clinics, hospitals, and physicians’ offices. While both certifications indicate a high level of competency, they are offered by different certifying bodies and may have slightly different eligibility requirements. CMAs are certified by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), and RMAs are registered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). Both roles involve assisting healthcare providers, managing patient records, and performing basic clinical tasks.
