What is CELDT testing?

CELDT testing refers to the California English Language Development Test, which was previously used in California schools to assess the English language proficiency of students whose primary language is not English. The test evaluated students' skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. While the CELDT has now been replaced by the ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California), some districts may still refer to language proficiency assessments as CELDT testing. These tests help determine appropriate instructional support and placement for English learners.
