Overview
Azure and GitHub bring together Azure platforms and Edge engineering systems to deliver custom solutions and services. Driven by its customers' needs, the Azure Edge team seeks to accelerate growth for GitHub and Microsoft's customers.
At Azure Edge, we are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer with experience in development, integration and productization of computer hardware modules and systems that are purpose-built for Azure/GitHub commercial solutions and deployed in Azure datacenters. This role will require experience in hardware and system development processes including specification, design, prototype, validation, productization and product lifecycle support. You will work with internal Engineering teams and our ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) and hardware partners on commercial product development, production, and support. You will be a member of a team that is driving a next-generation GitHub solution offerings supported by Azure.

Responsibilities
  • Engineering and delivery ownership of hardware development deliverables and systems that support the GitHub/Azure Edge product portfolio.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and ODMs to develop requirements and specifications for engineering design and validation deliverables.
  • Maintain engineering ownership and perform execution oversight of the hardware development plan and processes, security, quality, and deliverables with external partners/ODMs
  • Collaborate, align, and drive deliverables and change management with internal Hardware and Mechanical design and Validation, Firmware, Software, and Manufacturing Operations teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Apply experience in hardware design, debug, test/validation, firmware/software integration, bill-of-material (BOM) and change control in product lifecycle management.
  • Perform engineering engagement with hardware component suppliers and ODMs
  • Drive and contribute to product failure investigations including supplier and internal root-cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action (CA) processes to address design, component, and manufacturing defects and quality issues.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience

Other Requirements:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud
    background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due
    to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customer and is subject to certain
    citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal
    requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport, or other approved documents, or
    verified US government Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Mac/macOS and Linux computer systems and test environments; hardware, software, and firmware.
  • Experience in automation and test software programming, tools, and scripting including PowerShell, Python, or equivalent environments for hardware and firmware validation testing.
  • Strong hands-on skills and expertise in hardware testing and validation, diagnosis, and problem solving in a lab environment.
  • Skills to work independently and as part of a larger development team and have demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects.

Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
