Job description

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a full-time Business Analyst to support our team based in White Marsh, Maryland.

Summary:

The Business Analyst is responsible for gathering and documenting business requirements for products and project enhancements before they are developed. They deliver those business requirements to the Development team and will collaborate and complete Functional technical specifications, to ensure that the functional specifications match the business requirements. With direction from the product and/or program manager, the BA will track these changes through the complete SDLC process through successful release. This will include RTM management and tracking, as well as coordination of testing events and customer-facing demonstrations.  This is a hybrid position with the opportunity to work remotely periodically. 

Salary Range: $75 - 85k, based upon qualifications and experience. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Utilizes feedback from Product Managers, clients, industry experts, competitive analysis, customer contracts, and industry publications to document business requirements.
  • Conducts interviews with individuals or teams to understand business needs.
  • Participates in meetings where business requirements are developed.
  • Documents and organizes requirements in a logical fashion, following standard templates and methodologies.
  • Works closely with the Product Manager/Project Manager to document and prioritize business requirements.
  • Collaborates with the Development teams and Test Teams to ensure technical functional specifications match what was intended by the business requirements, and the expectations of the customer.
  • Obtains approval of the business requirements and design documents from the customer.
  • Documents technical non-functional requirements (i.e. security, performance, scalability).
  • Supports development team with other technical documentation.
  • Communicates and coordinates with QA team to ensure coverage of certain scenarios during testing phases.
  • Tracks and documents changes to functional and business specifications.
  • Creates or assists others in the writing of user documentation, instructions, and procedures.
  • Assists with the oversight of project schedules and coordination of third party/external partners.
  • Monitors and documents post-implementation problems and revision requests.
  • Creates tickets, stories and bugs (etc.) in the JIRA/DevOPs ticketing system and manages day to day prioritization with the scrum master.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education:  Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university or equivalent work experience is strongly preferred. Certification and PMI- Business Analysis a plus.

Knowledge:  Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.

Job Complexity:  Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Builds productive internal/external working relationships.

Supervision:  Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.

Experience:  Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience. Preferably in software development for back-office systems within the transportation industry.

Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
