Maintenance Superintendent

Positions reporting directly to this position: Maintenance salary and hourly personnel.

II. POSITION OBJECTIVE: Brief statement why position exists.

Provides design support to engineering and development projects, including actual assemble and maintenance of newly designed equipment for model and testing.

III. QUALIFICATIONS: Describe education and experience needed to perform the above.

College degree in Engineering or lesser degree (Technical School) if accompanied by 4+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer.

IV. TRAINING: Briefly state degree and depth of job training required for this position.

The first year will be on the job training, learning the manufacturing process, and the electrical equipment throughout the plant. Continuous training on the job as new equipment is designed and installed and projects are designed and developed.

V. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Descriptions of duties, physical, and visual requirements.

A. Tasks and Duties:

1. Maintain work area to THM standards.

2. Supervises and directs all maintenance department personnel in the effective and

economic utilization of the plant’s manufacturing and maintenance facilities.

3. Designing of pneumatic and tubular conveying for bulk materials.

4. Design of utility equipment, utility layout, and utility foundation.

5. Development of mechanical equipment for production machines.

6. Using flow diagrams to systemize projects.

7. Develop air and water systems by making pipe drawings.

8. Design and installation drawing for process equipment and preliminary drawings for jobs.

9. Maintaining and administering mechanical designs for “hands-on” start up work.

10. Evaluating and writing purchasing (contracting) specifications.

11. Ability to work on special assignments given by the Plant Manager.

12. Ability to initiate Appropriation Requests, and follow/coordinate all improvement projects

in process.

13. Able to operate computer systems and IBM mainframe system.

14. Provides proposals and design information for plan improvements.

15. Must have mathematic skills and record-keeping abilities.

16. Develop and maintain Preventive Maintenance Program

17. Learn and work within ISO-9001 guidelines.

B. Physical/Visual Activities Required:

1. Have adequate sight, hearing, and use of limbs to safely operate all powered vehicles. I.E. forklifts and sweepers.

2. Sight capabilities to distinguish proper products identification as well a warning and operational indicators.

3. Hearing capabilities to distinguish differences in warning alarm indicators and standard operation indicators.

4. Sight capabilities to identify accuracy and neatness of required job assignments.

5. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling capabilities to handle job requirements such as operating, cleaning, or packaging equipment and products.

6. Balancing to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching in all areas dues to possible limited direct supervision and/or observation

7. Ability to verbally communicate either face to face or via telephone with other fellow employees to accomplish all assigned job requirements.

8. Hear and understand verbal communication whether it is face to face or via telephone.

9. See and understand written communication.

10. Lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 30 feet.

11. Walking through, under, and around equipment with clearance of 30”.

12. Push and/or pull up to 2500 pounds up to 30 feet with the aid of material handling

equipment.

13. Activates and uses telephones and calculators as required in assigned job

requirements.

14. Ability to feel objects, textures, size, and shape and to determine temperatures by

touching of skin, primarily by that of finger tips.

15. Ability to grasp tools (manual as well and powered) and use them in accordance with a safe working manner so as not to injure oneself or fellow employees. I.E. power saws, drills, hammers, presses, latches, etc.

16. Sight capability to safely operate at arms length machinery and power and/or hand

tools needed to accomplish the requirement of the job assignments for this position.

17. Sight capability to read blueprints, detailed information on designs and projects, and

distinguish color, sizes, etc.

C. Work Environment Conditions:

1. Inside and outside environments apply.

2. Subject to extreme cold, temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

3. Subject to extreme heat, temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

4. Subject to noise, causing reason to shout in order to be heard above the noise level.

5. Subject to vibration, exposure fluctuating movements of the body.

6. Subjects to hazards such as moving machinery, electrical currents, falling debris, exposure to chemicals, gasses, high heat, or explosives.

7. Subject to unregulated atmospheric conditions caused by odors, fumes, gases, poor ventilation, and dusts. Subject to oils and other cutting fluids.

VI. AUTHORITY/DECISION MAKING: State closeness of supervision, control by policy or

procedure, direction of others.

Works under J-M policy and procedures on day-to-day basis. Makes decisions on matters related to maintenance of equipment. Works under supervision of Production Superintendent/Plant Manager.
