Software test analysts, also known as software testers or test engineers, are responsible for testing, analyzing, and evaluating new software operations or applications. They work on every stage of development from start to finish, offering advice and examining the programs at each phase of the building process. Software test analysts run trials for functionality, performance, and user experience from the early stages to review areas that need improvement.

Most employers prefer candidates for software test analyst positions to hold a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field, but you may be able to enter the industry by taking online software courses and proving proficiency in the job interview. Earning certification from organizations such as the International Software Certification Board (ISCB) and the American Software Testing Qualifications Board show mastery of the skills needed for a career in software testing.
