What Does a Remote Program Manager Do?

A remote program manager works for a client or an organization to manage a program or special project. This position is similar to any other program or project manager position, except that you work from home. You plan and coordinate with the project team to ensure that the program stays on schedule and within the budget. Common responsibilities include monitoring project progress and coordinating with the different team members and departments involved in the project. Your other duties may include solving any problems that might occur over a program’s life cycle and communicating with any outside stakeholders or supervisors.

How to Become a Remote Program Manager

The qualifications needed to become a remote program manager usually include a bachelor’s degree and significant experience in project management roles. Since this is a higher level position, some employers may require a master’s degree. Depending on the field, you may need experience in marketing, public relations, information technology, communications, or business management. You also need industry-specific experience. For example, an education program manager needs experience in education, and a marketing program manager needs marketing experience. Since this is a work from home position, time management and organization skills are essential.
