As a remote certified professional coder (CPC), your job duties involve working on medical coding responsibilities for healthcare organizations, assigning the appropriate code to each diagnosis and procedure performed on a patient in a medical facility. These codes must meet healthcare regulations, and the healthcare provider uses the codes for medical billing and insurance purposes. In this career, you may create an invoice or communicate with a patient to explain coverage, or communicate with healthcare providers and insurance companies during the claims process. You perform your duties online from a remote location.

The qualifications needed to start a career as a CPC coder include professional certification and postsecondary education. All CPC coders need at least a high school diploma or GED certificate. You may also choose to undertake a postsecondary certificate program in medical coding or pursue an associate degree in medical coding or healthcare information. You can demonstrate your skills by earning a professional certification as a CPC. Other relevant professional certifications include the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) accreditation.
